Personal statement and where I am so far

Provoking work is always a good work, even better speaking is the one without the words to speak for you. That is why I am showcasing my work of both music and images, because one should be intelligent enough to read a picture without having to rely on words.

I am not to far away from completing my BA (hons) degree in Video and Film Production at the university of Wolverhampton. Previously to this current course I successfully finished a two year course in BTEC National Diploma in Video & Film at Walsall college. Upon the completion of this course, I decided on instead of looking for a job, that I would continue on in education. I had always been interested in film production, but so far had only been able to more than less talk about the mechanics and ideology of film rather than to be able make something successful. I considered the university course as a way of developing on my current skills. One of which was learning to use a more variety of film equipment, which as I saw like many other aspects, felt most underwhelming prior to my current course. Equipment such as the camera Jib that allowed us attach the camera to a crane and manoeuvre it around. As I mention above, my experience at college was underwhelming partly due to the lack of creativity we had at hand.

As my degree course had been slowly progressing I had been slowly discovering that my talents seemed to lie somewhere between being an editor and the more hands on approach of being an crew assistant i.e. Working to construct heavy equipment that may other wise require more than 2 hands to build up and sometimes control during shoots. For example the camera jib, but it wasn't until I took a voluntary job at the Lighthouse cinema in Wolverhampton, working as part of the promotional crew in editing together trailer banners for the cinemas reception and café area.

I have gained my first sense of working in a small sector of the industry which goes hand in hand with some of the knowledge that is acquired while working as a full time student. In addition to working at the lighthouse, I've been able gain a sense of independence from I'm usually capable of doing.

As of 2012 in my second year and nearing my third year, for enrichment, I took on the role as crew assistant for the filming of the Wolverhampton graduation ceremony. That allowed me first hand to work for the university itself in help making footage for the DVD that would be later be distributed to willing paying graduates. The role I took on for the task, was working with other members of my team to manoeuvre heavy equipment to and from the grand theatre, why being stationed there I would be partnered with a single person from the group that would help me in charge of the cameras.

In addition to enrichment projects during my final year, myself and small group of others from the class are currently working on a music video for an up and coming band called Under the Banner. The video being named some stories, where I gained a more sense of more fulfilment as I am now starting to realise that I am finally pushing myself to work to proper client briefs as a posed to class ones.
